So, I didn’t really feel like my personal site was the place for a craft blog/stuff-making process journal, so I am starting that up here. I figured it was fitting to begin with the biggest thing I have ever knit, which I am quite proud of.
The pattern is Totally Autumn from Knitty, which is supposed to make a full-size throw for full-size humans. I sized down the needles and yarn and made a tiny-size throw for a tiny-size human named Dylan, who was born a week ago today. I have not met him. I saw a cell phone picture of him taken by his aunt. I hope he loves this blanket like I loved the blanket my grandma knit for me when I was born (currently sitting in a pile next to me, waiting for my knitting skills to be up to repairing a 24-year-old thing with a gaping hole in it where I once snagged it on my headgear).
Also, I guess by Knitty’s scale my knitting skills are “piquant” now. Cool.
It was really satisfying to see the pattern take shape in this. I messed up the very bottom (you may be able to tell if you click through to the large size), but then I began to see where all the stitches fit into making the leaf shapes. I think it taught me more about how a piece of knitting looks and fits together, and how to choose one stitch over another, than most of my other projects so far.
This is also up on my Ravelry if you want to check it out there. Hooray!
